It is a story of loss and grief. The inability to let things go and accept time as for what it is - inevitably moving on - is probably one of the biggest human weaknesses there is. Confronting this fear of time by something as emotionless and timeless as a machine, seems to be a paradox mankind might actually encounter in the future, as we more and more approach artificial intelligence.
